As some of you may already know, I have taken a great interest in training for marathons this past year, finding the sport both challenging and rewarding. My newest goal is to complete the Mayor’s Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska on June 23, 2007 and I have chosen, once again, to represent Team in Training in this conquest, this time, as a Mentor. This way, I not only receive a mountain of support in my journey, but I gain the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for research leading to a cure for Leukemia and other blood related cancers while helping others complete their first marathon. My race will be 26.2 miles and while some of you may be thinking, “She must be nuts,” I have been blessed with my health and a fun-filled life. It is a reward to be able to give something back!
To accomplish this exciting goal, I have rejoined the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program. With a coach, a training regimen and other team members to train with, I have every confidence that I will succeed (This time I’m going to beat Oprah’s time!). Another wonderful aspect of Team in Training is the ability to sponsor a patient with Leukemia. I will be racing for a young lady named Audrey Duffy. By committing to this program, I can help Audrey and others just like her by raising a minimum of $3,360 of which 75% goes directly towards research and aid for Leukemia patients and their families.
This is where you come in. In return for my hard work and dedication to this event and Audrey’s continuous battle with Leukemia, I ask for your generous support in helping us take a few steps closer to finding a cure. This unfortunate disease will affect over 100,000 lives this year. Luckily, the effectiveness of recently developed treatment methods and advances in research bring us closer to finding the cause of Leukemia and other related cancers. However, it takes donations from caring individuals like each one of you to make this happen. Every penny counts along with words of encouragement and increased awareness.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for involving yourselves in such a wonderful cause. Please make your donation by March 15, 2007. You may submit your tax deductible donation (Federal Tax ID # 13-5644916) on the attached website! If you need extra time, we’ll gladly accept your donations after that date. Again, on behalf of Audrey and Team in Training, I thank you for your support and look forward to sharing my experience with you!
With Thanks and Appreciation,
April
