some of you know that i am a catholic who firmly believes that God has me right where he wants me. i also believe that he has the people in my life right now who are suppose to be in my life. because of this belief, i have to thank GOD for this incredible gift i was given yesterday. ately, life has been pretty hard for me. just the day in day out of it all. things adding up. life choices, etc. nothing too tragic or paralyzing, just an overall feeling of BLAH- can you relate? well, this gift reminded me that i needed a little perspective.
let me back up for a moment: i have a student in my class who i have taught for the past two years. he truly makes my job a wonderful place to spend my day. he is one of those kids who i want to know forever, just because. i mentor him a lot (outside of academics) and we have a special type of bond. he tells me about the crushes he has and his karate classes, and so on. we talk a lot about our fathers because both of us do not have a relationship with these men. it is just little things that make him special. anyway, yesterday, he gave me a thak you card and this is what it read:
dear miss alas, i am writing this note to say that you were a great person and a great teacher. I accept you as a mother to me. i will never forget you. i will like to thank god becasue i got to meet a wonderful, loving person like you. i will come and visit you all the time so that i can see if you are still a loving teacher. man, miss alas, i don't want to leave. i want to stay in middle school here with you because you are an important person that i truly care about.
sincerely,
yours truly,
respectfully,
love,
your tony r.
does it get any better than that?
no,
it doesn't
